Jazz drummer and clarinettist, Sid Bromley was instrumental in the development of jazz in Queensland. He started the Brisbane Swing Club in 1941, and revived it after World War II as the Brisbane Hot Jazz Society. Requested by the ABC to assemble a regular broadcasting jazz band, Bromley formed the Canecutters (1947-1952). In 1955 he began regular appearances at the Story Bridge Hotel and activated a succession of jazz venues through the 1960s. Jazz activity in his later years focused on committee membership, in particular the Queensland Jazz Action Society. He was a long-time presenter of the Radio 4ZZZ jazz show.
